Garmin Edge® 1050 GPS Cycling Computer
Garmin’s flagship GPS cycling computer with a vivid 3.5-inch transmissive LCD (1,000 nits, 480×800), touchscreen, built-in speaker with bike bell and voice prompts, Garmin Pay, Smart Fueling, Cycling Coach, preloaded maps with Trailforks, 5Hz GPS, up to 60 hours in battery saver mode. $699.99.
Our Take: The Edge 1050 is Garmin’s ultimate cycling computer. It has the largest, sharpest display in the lineup: a 3.5-inch transmissive LCD at 480×800 resolution and 1,000 nits — maps are gorgeous, data fields are large and readable at a glance, and the on-device course creator becomes genuinely practical on a screen this size. Battery life is a real strength: 20 hours in demanding use puts it well ahead of the Edge 550 and Edge 850 (both 12 hours) with the same brilliant screen technology. In battery saver mode, it stretches to 60 hours. It has everything: speaker with bike bell and voice prompts, Garmin Pay, Cycling Coach, Smart Fueling, GroupRide, weather radar, 5Hz GPS, Trailforks with Forksight, gear ratio analysis — the full feature set with nothing held back. The one real trade-off: no physical buttons for navigation. The Edge 1050 has only three hardware buttons (power, start/stop, lap). All menu navigation, screen scrolling, and map interaction is touchscreen-only. Garmin’s touchscreen works well in wet conditions, but some riders strongly prefer buttons in heavy rain, with thick winter gloves, or during intense efforts when fine motor control is reduced. If that’s you, the Edge 850 at $599.99 has the same speaker, Garmin Pay, and software features in a smaller body with both touchscreen and 7 physical buttons — though with a smaller screen (2.7″) and shorter battery (12h). The Edge 840 at $449.99 trades the brilliant display and x50 features for 26-hour battery, touch + buttons, lighter weight, and a solar option. For riders who want the biggest screen, longest x50 battery, and every feature Garmin offers — and don’t mind touchscreen-only control — the Edge 1050 at $699.99 is the clear choice.
Why you’d choose this cycling computer
- A 3.5-inch transmissive LCD at 480×800 resolution and 1,000 nits peak brightness. Maps are detailed and vibrant, data fields are easily readable even in direct sunlight. Nearly double the resolution of the Edge 1040 it replaces. The biggest, sharpest screen Garmin has ever put on a cycling computer.
- Up to 20 hours in demanding use (sensors, navigation, full brightness) and up to 60 hours in battery saver mode. Outlasts the Edge 550 and 850 (both 12 hours) by a significant margin. A 30-minute USB-C charge adds roughly 50% — enough for an 8–10 hour ride.
- A full speaker delivers a realistic digital bike bell, voice turn-by-turn navigation prompts, workout cues, and audible alerts for approaching vehicles when paired with Varia radar. Far more effective than the beeper on older Edge models.
- Tap your Edge 1050 at compatible payment terminals for mid-ride coffee, snacks, or emergency supplies. No wallet, no phone needed. Works with supported banks and payment networks.
- Custom hydration and nutrition reminders based on your fitness level, power output, temperature, and humidity. Free Garmin Cycling Coach plans adapt to your training, recovery, and specific course demands for upcoming events.
- Plot routes point-by-point directly on the 3.5-inch touchscreen — the large display makes on-device course creation genuinely practical. Full topographic and cycling maps preloaded for road, gravel, and trail including Trailforks with Forksight.
- Multi-band GNSS with 5Hz recording (5 samples/sec) during descents. Enduro and downhill profiles, timing gates, post-ride trail breakdowns, Forksight. The Edge 1050 is equally capable on singletrack as it is on the road.
- In-ride messaging and live data with riding partners. Weather radar overlays showing wind and rain. Incident detection, LiveTrack, road hazard alerts from the Garmin community, and Varia radar/camera compatibility for complete situational awareness.

Edge 1050 — Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Edge 1050 different from the Edge 850?
The Edge 1050 has a larger 3.5-inch display (480×800) vs. the 850’s 2.7-inch (420×600), both using the same brilliant transmissive LCD technology at 1,000 nits. Battery life is significantly better on the 1050: 20 hours demanding use vs. 12 hours on the 850. However, the 1050 is touchscreen-only — no physical buttons for scrolling or navigation. The 850 has both touchscreen and 7 physical buttons, which is a real advantage in rain, cold, or with thick gloves. Both share the same speaker, Garmin Pay, 64 GB storage, Cycling Coach, Smart Fueling, and all other software features. The 1050 is larger (60.2×118.5×16.3 mm, 161g) vs. the 850’s compact form (54.6×92.2×16.8 mm, 112g). The 1050 costs $699.99 vs. $599.99 for the 850.
Does the Edge 1050 have physical buttons?
Only three: power, start/stop, and lap. There are no up/down/select buttons for navigating menus or scrolling data screens. All menu navigation, map interaction, and screen scrolling is done via the touchscreen. Garmin engineered the touchscreen to work reliably in wet conditions, but some riders find buttons more reliable in heavy rain or with thick winter gloves. If button control matters to you, the Edge 850 ($599.99) offers both touchscreen and 7 physical buttons.
How does the Edge 1050 compare to the Edge 840?
The Edge 1050 is a generational leap from the 840 in display quality and features. The 1050 has a 3.5-inch transmissive LCD (480×800, 1,000 nits) vs. the 840’s 2.6-inch transflective TFT (246×322). The 1050 adds a speaker with bike bell and voice prompts, Garmin Pay, on-device course creation, Cycling Coach, Smart Fueling, 5Hz GPS, weather radar, GroupRide, and gear ratio analysis. The 840’s advantage is battery: 26 hours (up to 42h saver) vs. 20 hours (60h saver). The 840 also has touchscreen + buttons, is lighter (85g vs. 161g), more compact, and has a solar option. The 840 costs $449.99 vs. $699.99.
Is 20 hours of battery life enough?
For most riders, yes. A 20-hour battery covers a full century ride or multi-day tours with overnight charging. In battery saver mode, it extends to 60 hours. A 30-minute USB-C charge adds roughly 50% battery (good for 8–10 hours of riding). If you routinely need 30+ hours without charging — for ultra-endurance events or bikepacking — the Edge 840 Solar (up to 42h+ with solar) or a power bank would be better options.
Does the Edge 1050 have a solar option?
No. The transmissive LCD technology that makes the screen so bright is not compatible with Garmin’s PowerGlass solar layer. For solar charging in the Edge lineup, the Edge 840 Solar remains available.
What sensors and accessories are compatible?
The Edge 1050 connects via ANT+ and Bluetooth LE to heart rate monitors, power meters, speed/cadence sensors, Shimano Di2 and SRAM eTap/AXS electronic shifting, smart trainers, Garmin Varia radar and camera systems, and Garmin Rally power meter pedals. Wi-Fi is built in for syncing and firmware updates. Compatible with Connect IQ for custom apps and data fields.
What’s in the box?
Edge 1050 GPS cycling computer, out-front bike mount, standard mount with rubber bands, tether, USB-C charging/data cable, and documentation. Heart rate monitors, speed/cadence sensors, and power meters are sold separately. A sensor bundle may be available with HRM-Dual, speed sensor, and cadence sensor.
