Garmin Descent™ X30 Dive Computer
Large-format 2.4″ color dive computer with multi-gas/trimix support, NDL Aware™ depth metrics, surface GPS, 3-axis compass, Bühlmann ZHL-16c with gradient factors, 10 ATM/100m depth rating, 30-hour dive battery, eco-friendly recycled ocean plastics. $749.99.
Our Take: The Descent X30 fills a gap in Garmin’s dive lineup that divers have been asking for: a large, easy-to-read console-style dive computer with modern features at a more accessible price than the X50i. The 2.4-inch color display is the standout. It’s dramatically easier to read at depth than any watch-sized dive computer, and the flip-screen mode that lets you orient the four big metal buttons on top or bottom is a smart design choice for different wrist positions and preferences. NDL Aware is genuinely useful — seeing in real time how a few meters of depth change affects your no-deco limit helps you make better decisions and extend bottom time safely. For gas support, the X30 punches well above its price. It handles air, nitrox, and trimix with 1 bottom gas and up to 11 deco/backup gases — the same gas configuration as the $1,499.99 X50i. The Bühlmann ZHL-16c algorithm with configurable gradient factors is the industry standard, and having it at $749.99 with this display size is a strong value proposition. Surface GPS marks entry and exit points, and the 3-axis digital compass handles underwater navigation. The dynamic depth chart and projected ascent profile with safety/deco stops are well-implemented. What you don’t get: air integration (the X50i and Mk3i have it), DiveView bathymetric maps (X50i, Mk3i, and Mk3 have them), CCR or apnea modes (the Mk3 watches have them), smartwatch features (Mk3 watches), or the 200m depth rating of the other models. If you’re a recreational diver or a technical diver working within 100 meters who values a big readable screen over wrist-mounted convenience, the X30 offers serious dive computer capabilities at a price that’s $350 less than the Mk3 watch and $750 less than the X50i. The eco-friendly housing made from recycled ocean-bound plastics is a thoughtful touch for a product made for people who care about the ocean.
Why you’d choose the Descent X30
- The 2.4-inch color LCD (320 × 240 pixels) is one of the largest in Garmin’s dive lineup. Custom dive screens show up to three data fields per page, and flip-screen mode lets you orient buttons on top or bottom. Large metal buttons work reliably with thick gloves.
- NDL Aware depth metrics show in real time how changes in your depth affect your no-decompression limit. This helps you make smarter decisions about depth and bottom time, safely extending your dive.
- Supports air, nitrox, and trimix up to 100% O₂ with 1 bottom gas and up to 11 deco/backup gases. Bühlmann ZHL-16c algorithm with user-configurable gradient factors. Full decompression diving support within the 100m depth rating.
- Mark your entry and exit points with satellite connectivity. Navigate to dive sites before you enter the water, then use the 3-axis digital compass for precise underwater navigation throughout your dive.
- Up to 30 hours on medium brightness (default), 47 hours on night-dive mode, and 10 hours on high brightness. Rechargeable lithium-ion battery charges via Garmin’s proprietary charging clip with USB-C cable.
- Rated to 10 ATM (100 meters / 330 feet), designed to comply with EN13319. Covers all recreational diving and many technical dive profiles. Leakproof inductive metal buttons and robust fiber-reinforced polymer case.
- 100% of the plastic in the housing and bezel is made from recycled ocean-bound plastics. Chemically strengthened glass lens. A dive computer designed to protect the underwater world it helps you explore.
- Wirelessly sync dive logs via Bluetooth and ANT+. Review depth profiles, temperature data, ascent rates, and more in the Garmin Dive app. Surface interval tracking helps plan multi-dive days safely.

Descent X30 — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Descent X30?
The Descent X30 is Garmin’s large-format console-style dive computer with a 2.4-inch vibrant color LCD display. It supports single-gas, multi-gas (including trimix up to 100% O₂), and gauge dive modes, plus a pool mode. It uses the Bühlmann ZHL-16c decompression algorithm with configurable gradient factors, and includes surface GPS, a 3-axis digital compass, NDL Aware™ depth metrics, and a rechargeable battery good for up to 30 hours in dive mode. It is rated to 10 ATM (100 meters / 330 feet).
What is NDL Aware™?
NDL Aware is a Garmin innovation that shows you in real time how changes in your depth will affect your no-decompression limit (NDL). This helps you make informed decisions about depth and bottom time so you can extend your dive safely. It works by calculating projected NDL at nearby depths and displaying the information on your dive screen.
Does the X30 support air integration?
No. The Descent X30 does not support air integration. If you need tank pressure monitoring, the Descent X50i ($1,499.99) supports up to 8 tanks via Descent T2 transceivers, and the Descent Mk3i watch ($1,399.99–$1,999.99) offers the same via SubWave sonar. The X30 is a dedicated dive computer without transmitter support.
How does the X30 compare to the X50i?
The X50i ($1,499.99) is the premium step-up. It adds a larger 3-inch touchscreen (surface only), sapphire lens, 20 ATM/200m depth rating, air integration via SubWave, DiveView™ bathymetric maps, diver-to-diver messaging, an integrated dive light, and 32 GB storage. The X30 ($749.99) offers a 2.4-inch LCD, chemically strengthened glass lens, 10 ATM/100m depth rating, and no air integration or DiveView maps — but shares the same decompression algorithm, multi-gas support including trimix, surface GPS, and compass. The X30 is ideal for divers who want a large, easy-to-read dedicated dive computer without needing air integration or deep technical depth ratings.
How does the X30 compare to the Mk3 and Mk3i watches?
The Mk3 ($1,099.99) and Mk3i ($1,399.99+) are watch-style dive computers that double as multisport GPS smartwatches. They feature AMOLED displays, 200m depth rating, CCR mode, apnea/freediving modes, health tracking, music, Garmin Pay, and DiveView maps. The Mk3i adds air integration and SubWave diver-to-diver messaging. The X30 trades the smartwatch features and deeper rating for a much larger 2.4-inch display that’s easier to read underwater, 30-hour dive-specific battery life, big glove-friendly buttons, and a lower price.
What gas mixes does the X30 support?
Air, nitrox, and trimix up to 100% O₂. You can configure 1 bottom gas and up to 11 decompression and/or backup gases. This makes the X30 capable of handling advanced multi-gas technical dives within its 100-meter depth rating.
Is the housing eco-friendly?
Yes. 100% of the plastic in the X30’s housing and bezel is made from recycled ocean-bound plastics. The lens is chemically strengthened glass and the buttons are leakproof metal.
What’s in the box?
Descent X30 dive computer with hinged silicone dive band, charging clip/cable, screen protector kit, and documentation. The X30 is also compatible with 26 mm QuickFit® bands and bungee mounts (sold separately).
