Garmin quatix 8 Pro AMOLED Marine GPS Smartwatch
The quatix 8 Pro is Garmin's flagship marine GPS smartwatch with built-in inReach satellite and LTE connectivity, chartplotter voice control, enhanced Boat Mode, and a bright 1.4-inch AMOLED display. Stay connected up to 50 miles offshore with phone-free calls, two-way messaging, and interactive SOS — all from your wrist.
Our Take: The quatix 8 Pro is the most capable marine smartwatch Garmin has ever made. It builds on the already-excellent quatix 8 by adding inReach satellite and LTE connectivity — the same breakthrough feature from the fēnix 8 Pro — so you can leave your phone at the dock and still make calls, send messages, share your location, and trigger SOS. The enhanced Boat Mode is a practical addition: it brings your marine-connected apps to the foreground when you're on the water and tucks them away when you're not. If you're a serious mariner who wants one device for the helm, the trail, and everyday life, this is the watch.
Why you'd choose this model
- Built-in two-way satellite messaging and LTE cellular connectivity let you make voice calls, send texts, share your LiveTrack location, and trigger SOS without your phone — up to 50 miles offshore.
- Boat Mode surfaces marine-connected apps on the watch face while you're on the water — autopilot control, boat data, trolling motor remote — then hides them when you're on land.
- Use the built-in speaker and microphone to issue voice commands to your compatible Garmin chartplotter via Bluetooth, keeping your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the water.
- The Elevate Gen 5 optical HR sensor delivers 24/7 heart rate, Pulse Ox, and HRV tracking, plus the Garmin ECG app for on-demand atrial fibrillation detection.
- Rated to 10 ATM with EN 13319 dive certification, leakproof metal buttons, and a sensor guard — ready for scuba, apnea, and snorkeling with full dive logging.
- Access GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo on dual frequencies (L1 + L5) for pinpoint positioning, while SatIQ automatically optimizes satellite mode to balance accuracy and battery life.
- The 1.4-inch AMOLED display reaches an estimated 2,000 nits peak brightness — one of the brightest in the Garmin lineup — with sapphire crystal scratch resistance and always-on mode.
- A variable-intensity LED flashlight with red safety mode provides illumination on deck or ashore, while the built-in speaker and microphone enable phone calls, voice commands, and voice messaging.

Who this watch is perfect for
- Offshore boaters and cruisers who need satellite communication and SOS capability when cellular coverage ends.
- Sailboat racers who want tack assist, regatta timers, and a virtual starting line directly on the wrist.
- Serious anglers who rely on trolling motor remote control, autopilot integration, and waypoint marking from the helm.
- Active mariners who also train on land and want advanced multisport metrics, ECG, and performance insights in one watch.
- Anyone upgrading from the quatix 7 who wants a modern AMOLED display, speaker/mic, dive rating, and phone-free connectivity.
You may prefer a different Garmin if…
- You don't need satellite or LTE connectivity — the quatix 8 AMOLED offers the same marine features for $100 less.
- You want the largest battery for extended offshore trips — the quatix 8 (51 mm) delivers 29 days of battery life in smartwatch mode.
- You're a land-based athlete who doesn't need marine features — the fēnix 8 Pro shares the same platform with inReach at the same price.

quatix® 8 Pro — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the quatix 8 and the quatix 8 Pro?
The quatix 8 Pro adds built-in inReach satellite and LTE connectivity, allowing two-way messaging, voice calls without a phone, LiveTrack location sharing, weather updates, and interactive SOS through the Garmin Response coordination center. It also features a brighter AMOLED display (up to 2,000 nits), a louder speaker, and an enhanced Boat Mode that surfaces marine controls when on the water. The Pro is available in 47 mm only and is priced at $1,299.99, compared to the standard quatix 8 at $1,199.99 (47 mm) or $1,299.99 (51 mm). The tradeoff is slightly reduced battery life (15 days vs. 16 days in smartwatch mode) due to the additional satellite and LTE radios. An active Garmin inReach subscription is required for satellite and LTE features, starting at $7.99 per month.
Does the quatix 8 Pro require a subscription for satellite and LTE features?
Yes. Satellite messaging, LTE voice calls, LiveTrack, and weather updates require an active Garmin inReach subscription. Plans start at $7.99 per month with additional per-use charges depending on the plan tier. The activation fee is waived for quatix 8 Pro. Coverage varies by region: LTE is widely available in the U.S. and parts of Europe, while satellite messaging via the Skylo network covers the continental U.S., most of Europe, and parts of Canada — up to approximately 50 miles offshore. Alaska, Hawaii, and high-latitude regions above 65°N are not currently supported by satellite.
Can I make phone calls from the quatix 8 Pro without my phone?
Yes. The quatix 8 Pro has built-in LTE connectivity that enables phone-free voice calls and text messaging when connected to an LTE network, without needing your smartphone nearby. When LTE is unavailable, the watch can fall back to satellite for two-way text messaging, though voice calls require LTE. An active Garmin inReach subscription is required for both LTE and satellite communication.
Is the quatix 8 Pro suitable for diving?
Yes. The quatix 8 Pro is dive-rated to 40 meters and meets the EN 13319 standard for dive instruments. It features leakproof metal buttons and a metal sensor guard to protect the watch during submerged activities. Built-in support for scuba and apnea diving includes dive logging, depth tracking, and ascent rate alerts. The 10 ATM water rating covers swimming, snorkeling, and recreational diving.
What marine features does the quatix 8 Pro include?
The quatix 8 Pro includes comprehensive marine tools: chartplotter voice control via the built-in speaker and microphone, boat data streaming (depth, engine RPM, wind, speed, temperature), autopilot control, Fusion audio remote, Force trolling motor remote, waypoint marking, anchor drag and tide change alerts, sail racing tools (tack assist, regatta timer, virtual starting line), and BlueChart g3 coastal chart support. The enhanced Boat Mode surfaces marine apps on the watch face while on the water and hides them on land. All marine-connected features require pairing with compatible Garmin marine hardware.
How does the quatix 8 Pro compare to the fēnix 8 Pro?
The quatix 8 Pro and fēnix 8 Pro share the same core hardware platform, including the AMOLED display, titanium bezel, Elevate Gen 5 HR sensor with ECG, multi-band GNSS with SatIQ, LED flashlight, speaker and microphone, and inReach satellite plus LTE connectivity. The key difference is the quatix 8 Pro adds dedicated marine software: Boat Mode, chartplotter voice control, boat data streaming, autopilot and trolling motor remote, sailing race tools, anchor and tide alerts, and BlueChart g3 chart support. If you spend time on the water, the quatix 8 Pro provides marine tools that are not available on the fēnix 8 Pro. Both watches are priced at $1,299.99 and are available in 47 mm.
What size bands does the quatix 8 Pro use?
The quatix 8 Pro uses 22 mm QuickFit bands, making it compatible with the full range of Garmin QuickFit 22 mm accessories, including silicone, nylon, leather, and titanium options. The included Captain Blue or Black silicone band fits wrist circumferences from approximately 125 mm to 208 mm.
