Garmin fēnix® E AMOLED GPS Smartwatch
The fēnix E is Garmin's most affordable entry into the fēnix lineup, released August 2024. It delivers the same full training suite and new user interface as the fēnix 8 — including Training Readiness, Real-Time Stamina, Body Battery, HRV Status, and downloadable TopoActive maps — all behind a bright 1.3-inch AMOLED display with a stainless steel bezel. At $799.99, it's $200 less than the fēnix 8 AMOLED, with the main tradeoffs being an older Gen 4 HR sensor (no ECG or skin temperature), Gorilla Glass instead of sapphire, no speaker/mic, no flashlight, no multi-band GPS, and 10ATM water rating instead of 40m dive. Available in a single 47mm size.
Our Take: The fēnix E is the smart buy for athletes who want the fēnix experience without the fēnix 8 price tag. At $799.99, you get Garmin's latest training software, a beautiful 1.3-inch AMOLED display, downloadable maps, and 16 days of battery life. The tradeoffs are real but may not matter to everyone: the Gen 4 sensor is still accurate for most activities, and many runners never use ECG or skin temperature. The biggest functional gaps are the lack of multi-band GPS (less accurate in dense urban/tree cover), no speaker/mic, and no flashlight. If you can live without those, the fēnix E delivers 90% of the fēnix 8 experience at 80% of the price.
Why you'd choose this model
- $200 less than the fēnix 8 AMOLED ($999.99+). The lowest entry point for a fēnix watch with an AMOLED display, maps, and the full Garmin training suite.
- Same 1.3-inch, 416×416 AMOLED touchscreen as the fēnix 8 47mm. Rich colors, deep blacks, excellent low-light readability. Touch + button navigation.
- Training Readiness, Training Status, Real-Time Stamina, PacePro, VO2 Max, Running Power, Body Battery, HRV Status, daily suggested workouts, strength training plans. Same new UI as fēnix 8.
- Download road, trail, and ski resort maps via Wi-Fi or Garmin Express. Turn-by-turn navigation, round-trip routing, Back to Start. Same mapping experience as fēnix 8 once maps are loaded.
- Up to 16 days smartwatch, 42 hours GPS, 6 days always-on display. Same battery life as the fēnix 8 AMOLED 47mm despite the lower price.
- Stainless steel bezel is heavier than titanium but still very durable. MIL-STD-810 tested for thermal, shock, and water resistance. 10ATM water rating.
- Store thousands of songs for phone-free listening with Bluetooth headphones. Same 32GB music storage as the fēnix 8.
- NFC contactless payments from your wrist. Smart notifications for texts, calls, email, calendar. Connect IQ app store. Same smart features as fēnix 8.
Who this watch is perfect for
- Athletes who want the fēnix training suite and AMOLED display without the $1,000+ price tag.
- Runners and hikers who don't need ECG, flashlight, or multi-band GPS but want maps and advanced analytics.
- Anyone upgrading from an older Garmin (Fenix 5/6/7, Forerunner, or Venu) who wants a premium multisport watch.
- Budget-conscious outdoor enthusiasts who value software features over hardware bells and whistles.
You may prefer a different fēnix if…
- You want ECG, Gen 5 sensor, and sapphire crystal — step up to the fēnix 8 AMOLED ($999.99+).
- You want a speaker/mic and flashlight — available on the fēnix 8 AMOLED, fēnix 8 Solar, and fēnix 8 Pro.
- You need multi-band GPS for dense forests or urban canyons — the fēnix E only has multi-GNSS.
- You want standalone connectivity — the fēnix 8 Pro ($1,199.99+) has inReach LTE + satellite.

fēnix® E — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the fēnix E and the fēnix 8?
The fēnix E ($799.99) saves $200+ vs the fēnix 8 AMOLED ($999.99+) but uses the older Gen 4 HR sensor (no ECG, no skin temperature), Gorilla Glass (not sapphire), stainless steel bezel (not titanium), no speaker/mic, no flashlight, and multi-GNSS only (no multi-band GPS or SatIQ). The fēnix E is 10ATM rated vs 40m dive on the fēnix 8. Both share the same training software, new UI, maps, music storage, and Garmin Pay.
Does the fēnix E have maps?
Yes. TopoActive maps can be downloaded via Wi-Fi or Garmin Express. Once loaded, the mapping experience is the same as the fēnix 8 — turn-by-turn navigation, round-trip routing, Back to Start, ski resort maps, and more. The main difference is that maps are not preloaded and must be downloaded first.
Does the fēnix E have ECG?
No. The fēnix E uses the Elevate Gen 4 HR sensor, which does not support ECG or skin temperature tracking. For ECG, you'll need the fēnix 8 AMOLED ($999.99+), fēnix 8 Solar ($999.99+), or fēnix 8 Pro ($1,199.99+), all of which use the Gen 5 sensor.
Does the fēnix E have a speaker, microphone, or flashlight?
No. The fēnix E does not include a speaker, microphone, or LED flashlight. These features are available on the fēnix 8 AMOLED, fēnix 8 Solar, and fēnix 8 Pro.
How long does the battery last on the fēnix E?
Up to 16 days in smartwatch mode, 42 hours in GPS mode, 6 days with always-on display, and 21 days in battery saver mode. This matches the fēnix 8 AMOLED 47mm.
What size does the fēnix E come in?
The fēnix E is available in a single 47mm size. For smaller or larger options, the fēnix 8 AMOLED comes in 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm. The fēnix 8 Solar and Pro come in 47mm and 51mm.
Is the fēnix E worth it vs the fēnix 8?
It depends on your priorities. The fēnix E delivers the full Garmin training suite, AMOLED display, maps, and 16-day battery at $799.99. You give up ECG, Gen 5 sensor accuracy, sapphire scratch resistance, speaker/mic, flashlight, multi-band GPS, and dive rating. For most road runners and general outdoor use, the fēnix E is excellent. For serious trail running in dense forests, diving, or if you value the latest health sensors, the fēnix 8 is worth the $200+ premium.
