Garmin fēnix® 8 Pro Sapphire AMOLED GPS Smartwatch

The fēnix 8 Pro is the most connected Garmin smartwatch ever made, released September 2025. It's the first and only fēnix with built-in inReach® technology for LTE cellular and two-way satellite messaging — leave your phone behind and still make voice calls, send texts, share your location with LiveTrack, and trigger interactive SOS with the 24/7 Garmin Response℠ center. Built on the proven fēnix 8 platform, it features a brighter ~2,000-nit AMOLED display, titanium bezel, sapphire crystal, Gen 5 HR sensor with ECG, LED flashlight, speaker and microphone, preloaded topographic maps, and 40-meter dive rating. Available in 47mm ($1,199.99) and 51mm ($1,299.99) with up to 27 days of battery life.

Our Take: The fēnix 8 Pro is for athletes and adventurers who want to leave their phone behind without losing contact. It's the first Garmin watch with built-in inReach LTE and satellite — voice calls, two-way messaging, LiveTrack, and SOS directly from your wrist. Beyond connectivity, you get everything the standard fēnix 8 offers: Gen 5 sensor, ECG, sapphire crystal, titanium bezel, flashlight, maps, and 40m dive rating — plus a brighter 2,000-nit display and louder speakers. At $1,199.99 (47mm) or $1,299.99 (51mm), it's ~$100–200 more than the equivalent fēnix 8 AMOLED. The tradeoff is thickness (16mm vs 13.8mm) and an inReach subscription ($7.99+/mo). If you don't need standalone connectivity, the standard fēnix 8 saves money with nearly identical performance.

Why you'd choose this model

Who this watch is perfect for

  • Adventurers who need emergency SOS and messaging where there's no cell service — trail running, hiking, climbing, backcountry skiing.
  • Athletes who want to leave their phone behind on runs and rides but still stay connected via LTE.
  • Anyone who values the peace of mind of 24/7 Garmin Response℠ SOS support.
  • Outdoor enthusiasts upgrading from a separate inReach handheld — consolidate to one device on your wrist.

You may prefer a different fēnix if…

  • You don't need standalone LTE/satellite — the fēnix 8 AMOLED ($999.99+) saves $100–200 with the same core features.
  • You want maximum battery — the fēnix 8 Solar ($999.99+) gets up to 48 days with solar charging.
  • You want a smaller 43mm option — the fēnix 8 AMOLED comes in 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm.
  • Budget is key — the fēnix E ($799.99) delivers maps, AMOLED, and the full training suite at $400 less.

fēnix® 8 Pro — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the fēnix 8 Pro and the standard fēnix 8?

The fēnix 8 Pro adds built-in inReach LTE and satellite connectivity — voice calls, two-way messaging, LiveTrack, and interactive SOS from the wrist without your phone (subscription required, starting at $7.99/mo). It also has a brighter ~2,000-nit display and louder speakers. The standard fēnix 8 lacks standalone connectivity but offers the same Gen 5 sensor, ECG, maps, flashlight, and dive rating. The Pro is ~$100–200 more and slightly thicker (~16mm vs ~13.8mm) due to LTE/satellite antennas. No 43mm Pro option exists.

Does the fēnix 8 Pro require a subscription for LTE and satellite?

Yes. All LTE and satellite features — including messaging, voice calls, LiveTrack, weather, and SOS — require an active Garmin inReach subscription. Plans start at $7.99/month for inReach Enabled. Without a subscription, the fēnix 8 Pro functions identically to a standard fēnix 8. Emergency SOS also requires a paid plan.

What is the difference between the fēnix 8 Pro and the fēnix E?

The fēnix E ($799.99) is the budget entry to the fēnix lineup: AMOLED display, maps, and full training suite, but with a Gen 4 sensor (not Gen 5), Gorilla Glass (not sapphire), stainless steel bezel (not titanium), no speaker/mic, no flashlight, no multi-band GPS, no ECG, no skin temperature, and no inReach. The fēnix 8 Pro ($1,199.99+) has every feature Garmin offers plus standalone connectivity.

Should I get the fēnix 8 Solar or fēnix 8 Pro?

The Solar model uses a MIP display (not AMOLED) with Garmin's Power Sapphire solar charging lens for extreme battery life — up to 28 days (47mm) or 48 days (51mm). The Pro has a brighter AMOLED display and inReach LTE/satellite connectivity but shorter battery (15–27 days). Both share the same Gen 5 sensor, ECG, maps, flashlight, and dive rating. Choose Solar for maximum battery and always-on readability; choose Pro for standalone connectivity and vibrant AMOLED.

Does the fēnix 8 Pro have ECG?

Yes. The fēnix 8 Pro, fēnix 8 AMOLED, and fēnix 8 Solar all include the ECG app for atrial fibrillation detection using the Gen 5 sensor. The fēnix E does not have ECG (Gen 4 sensor).

What sizes does the fēnix 8 Pro come in?

The fēnix 8 Pro AMOLED comes in 47mm ($1,199.99) and 51mm ($1,299.99). There is no 43mm option due to the space required for LTE and satellite antennas. A 51mm MicroLED edition ($1,999.99) with an ultra-bright 4,500-nit display is also available. For a 43mm AMOLED option, choose the standard fēnix 8 AMOLED.

Can the fēnix 8 Pro replace my inReach handheld device?

Partially. The fēnix 8 Pro supports two-way messaging, location check-ins, and interactive SOS over satellite — similar to a handheld inReach. However, it uses GEO satellites (not Iridium LEO like dedicated inReach devices), which requires a clear line of sight and may have more limited satellite coverage. You cannot have both an inReach handheld and fēnix 8 Pro active on the same account simultaneously. For critical backcountry use, many adventurers carry both as the handheld remains more reliable for satellite-only communication.
