MSRP: $4,999.99.
Our Take: The Approach R50 is the most significant launch monitor release since the original R10 — and it solves the biggest pain point in home golf simulators: complexity. Before the R50, building a simulator setup meant buying a launch monitor, a gaming computer, a projector, a screen, software licenses, and then spending hours troubleshooting connections. The R50 replaces all of that with a single device you can set up in under a minute. Press the power button, place it beside your ball, and you’re hitting shots on Pebble Beach. The three-camera system directly measures every metric (spin rate, spin axis, face angle, club path) instead of estimating them like the radar-based R10, and the built-in 10″ touchscreen is sharp enough to serve as your entire simulator display. Add the HDMI output and you can also run it through a projector for a full immersive experience. At $4,999.99, it’s a premium investment — but when you factor in the computer, projector software, and complexity it replaces, the total cost of ownership is competitive with traditional simulator setups that can easily exceed $8,000–$15,000. The R50 is ideal for the golfer who wants a turnkey simulator that works both indoors and at the range with zero compromise on data accuracy.

Who this launch monitor is perfect for
- Golfers who want a complete simulator experience without the complexity of separate computers, projectors, and software — just power on and play.
- Home simulator builders who want a premium, camera-based launch monitor with measured (not calculated) data — competitive with Foresight, Uneekor, and TrackMan accuracy.
- Indoor and outdoor practitioners who want one device for both environments. The camera system requires minimal space and no ball flight path.
- Golfers upgrading from the Approach R10 who want more accurate data, direct spin/axis measurement, and a built-in touchscreen simulator.
- Small businesses, country clubs, and golf instructors looking for a portable simulator solution for lessons, events, or club fitting.
You may prefer the Approach R10 if…
- Your budget is under $1,000 — the R10 at $599.99 provides solid radar-based data and Home Tee Hero via the Garmin Golf app on your phone.
- You primarily use the range outdoors and want a pocket-sized monitor that fits in your golf bag.
- You don’t need a standalone simulator — you already have a computer, projector, and sim software.
- You’re a casual golfer looking for basic swing feedback rather than tour-level accuracy.

Approach R50 — Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a computer or phone to use the Approach R50?
No. The R50 is a fully self-contained launch monitor and simulator. The built-in 10-inch touchscreen runs Home Tee Hero, displays all metrics, and shows impact videos without any external device. You can optionally connect to a phone via the Garmin Golf app or to a computer for third-party simulator software like GSPro or E6.
What is the difference between the Approach R50 and R10?
The R50 uses three high-speed cameras to directly measure 15+ metrics, while the R10 uses radar and calculates many metrics algorithmically. The R50 has a built-in 10-inch touchscreen simulator; the R10 requires a phone or tablet. The R50 provides high-speed impact videos; the R10 does not. The R50 is $4,999.99; the R10 is $599.99.
Does the R50 require a subscription?
The R50 works as a launch monitor without any subscription. However, Home Tee Hero virtual course play and some simulator features require an active Garmin Golf membership at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year.
Can I use the R50 indoors and outdoors?
Yes. The camera-based system works in both environments. Place the R50 approximately 1.5 feet to the side of the ball, level with the hitting surface. Indoors, the R50 requires less space than radar-based monitors because it only measures the impact zone, not the full ball flight.
What third-party simulator software is compatible?
The R50 is compatible with GSPro, E6 Connect, E6 Apex, and Awesome Golf. Connect via Wi-Fi to a PC running the third-party software. The R50 can simultaneously display metrics on its own screen while outputting simulator graphics via HDMI.
Does the R50 track putting?
Yes. The R50 tracks putting during Home Tee Hero simulator rounds. You can putt with a real putter and the cameras measure the stroke for realistic green play during virtual rounds.
How long does the battery last?
Up to 4 hours on a single charge. The R50 can also be used while plugged in via the included AC adapter for extended sessions. After 20 minutes of inactivity, the device enters standby mode.
What are club tracking stickers and why are they needed?
The R50 includes 250 small reflective stickers that attach to the club face. The cameras use these stickers to track club metrics like face angle, club path, and angle of attack. Without stickers, the R50 still tracks all ball metrics but cannot measure club data. Stickers are a one-time application and last many sessions.
