Running & Walking
ePulse2 does not require a chest strap monitor or special watch to provide you with feedback during your run or walk. It is lightweight, keeps your hands free, and its full color display is easy to read. Track your target heart rate, set up your own targets, or use it to give you dynamic feedback on the calories you burn during your run or walk.

Aerobics
Aerobic Activity (running, biking, aerobic dance, kickboxing, treadmill, stair climber, stationary bike, walking) exercises your heart, lungs and circulatory system to process oxygen more efficiently. It also burns fat and increases metabolism. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that to achieve maximum aerobic exercise benefit you elevate your heart rate to 60-90% of its maximum.

Weights & Resistance Training
Resistance Training Exercises such as calisthenics, weightlifting or any activity that makes you flex muscles repeatedly makes the body burn more calories, improves bone density, builds muscle and reduces body fat. During weight training, the ePulse2 feedback permits you to monitor your heart rate between repetitions.

Fitness & Calorie Counting
With the Daily Exercise Calories and Total Daily Calories functions of the ePulse2 you now have a means to estimate your caloric burn. This information can be compared to your caloric intake to support a weight monitoring or weight loss program.

Initial Charge Notice
The ePulse2's rechargeable battery can discharge while the unit is in transit. If you are having trouble with the initial charge, plug the ePulse2 into the charger, wait at least one minute, hold the On/Off button down and release it after 15 seconds. The "charging" indicator will appear within seconds of releasing the On/Off button.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q. How does the ePulse2 differ from the chest strap heart rate monitors that are on the market today?
A. The difference is ease of use and convenience! The accuracy of the ePulse2 is similar to other monitors. Impact Sports Technologies has used proprietary technology to place the sensor that captures heart rate on the arm instead of requiring a chest strap and special watch. The ePulse2 is self-contained and displays your fitness data conveniently on the armband when and where you need it.

Q. Can the ePulse2 be worn on either arm?
A. The ePulse2 is designed to accommodate both right and left handed people and may be worn on either arm to accommodate racquet sports and to provide the least interference with hand functions.

Q. Can the ePulse2 be worn on the wrist?
A. The ePulse2 is designed to be worn on the forearm. However, it may be worn by some people with good results about two inches above the wrist.

Q. Can I clean my ePulse2 Armband?
A. Yes, it is water resistant. Your ePulse2 armband is designed to be superficially cleaned with mild soap and water. It can be rinsed under running water and laid flat to dry. However, it is not designed to be immersed in water. Do not immerse the main display in water or hold it under running water as this may void the warranty.

Q. How often do I have to recharge the battery and what is battery life?
A. The ePulse2 is designed to operate for up to 6.5 hours on a single charge. By using the “On Demand Mode” the charge time will be doubled. It is recommended that ePulse2 be kept on the charger when not in use. The battery is designed for at least 500 charge cycles before it must be replaced.

Q. Why is it useful to know my heart rate?
A. Your heart rate provides a useful measure of the intensity of your exercise and can be used to calculate your calories burned. By monitoring your heart rate with the ePulse2 you will receive immediate feedback on the quality of your effort, allowing you to regulate the activity intensity to better achieve your specific fitness goals.

Q. What are the benefits of activity that elevates my heart rate?
A. The benefits are many to include: increased and calorie burning and a more efficient cardio vascular system (better physical endurance). It has also been proven that regular cardio exercise will reduce your chance of coronary artery disease, lower blood pressure, increase good cholesterol (HDL) and decrease the risk of diabetes. Many people report that a marked decrease in anxiety and depression is experienced with exercise, especially those activities associated with cardio fitness. A lack of physical activity has many serious consequences. People who don’t exercise often have higher rate of strokes, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, colon and breast cancers and most seriously, death from coronary artery disease.

Q. How high should my heart rate be to begin achieving benefits?
A. The great news is that the benefits of cardio exercise begin with any elevation of one’s heart rate. However, there are different benefits with different levels of heart rate (or exercise intensity).

Below, find a brief summary outlining some of these benefits.
50 – 60%: Start Up, Basic Wellness and Daily Activities Goal: Maintain current state of health and to begin the “getting fit” process.
Exertion Level: Warm-up / Easy pace; Slight sweating; No difficulty to converse; Increase heart rate slightly above normal for a sustained duration.

60 – 70%: Fat Burning / Base Fitness Goal: Maximized stored fat as calorie / energy source during workout and to improve base cardio respiratory health. Exertion Level: Moderate, sustainable intensity; Full sweat; some difficulty to converse; Breathing is somewhat labored and HR is strong

70 – 80%: Cardio Conditioning Goal: Improve fitness & cardio condition. Exertion Level: High, not sustainable over long duration; Heavy sweat; Difficulty to converse; Breathing is labored and HR is fast, strong and evident.

80 – 100%: Anaerobic / Interval Training Goal: Push Anaerobic Threshold up toward max HR. Improve cardio conditioning and recovery time; minimize fatigue & muscular lactic acid build up. Exertion Level: Max – All-out, sustainable in only limited durations or short bursts. Breathing and HR are close to or at max; muscle burn.

Q. What is the advantage of the ePulse2 over the heart rate monitors that are on the handgrips of most exercise equipment at my fitness club?
A. The ePulse2 offers several unique advantages over heart rate monitors found on exercise equipment, which offer just an estimated snapshot of your caloric burn while you are using them.
First, the calculations from the ePulse2 are personally tailored to you and your physiology, making the caloric burn calculations more accurate.
Second, the convenience of the ePulse2 permits you to wear it during your entire workout as you move from warm-up to each station or exercise to exercise and during cool down when your heart rate and caloric burn remain elevated. This gives you a more dynamic and comprehensive picture of
the total end-to-end effectiveness of your exercise session.
Third, the ePulse2 adds value to any exercise equipment you use or may have purchased for in home use since it is always available to give you feedback on the effectiveness of that equipment.

Q. Can the ePulse2 tell me if I am over training?
A. Since the ePulse2 will allow you to become familiar with your heart rate during all types of activity, including your resting heart rate, you will be able to see a typical sign of over training if your resting heart rate remains 5-10 beats higher than normal for an extended period of time.

Q. Can I use the ePulse2 during weight training?
A. Yes. Since it is worn on the forearm, the ePulse2 is very convenient for weight training. It can be particularly useful if you are monitoring your heart rate between sets or when circuit training. For instance if you are power lifting you may want to see your heart rate move back to resting level between sets, while if you are moving quickly from station to station for aerobic or endurance training (circuit) the ePulse2 will help you keep your heart rate elevated with constant feedback. Due to physical disruption of the sensor while actually lifting you may occasionally note some loss of the heart rate signal but the ePulse2 will quickly recover once you rest or are between sets.

Charger doesn't Work 4 I like the monitor a lot. Had to follow a special procedure to jump start the battery to get it to take a charge. Even after this procedure though, the battery won't take a charge from the AC/DC adaptor. Monitor works very well and I like it a lot. Might even buy another one: it doesn't require a chest strap.Cons:

Excellent Product and very accurate 5 Purchased after my heart attack to wear during my cardiac rehab sessions to check accuracy. It was spot on! Even the rehab staff were impressed. A year later I wear it during my exercise as I can maintain the heart rate I need as it gives me confidence and I'm getting the workout I need!Pros:Comfortable. User friendly. ePulse2 4 I have had my ePulse2 for2 1/2 years since my heart attack and bypass surgery. I have checked its accuracy against several cardiac stress tests and found in was accurate within 1-2 beats. The battery only lasts about 2 hours of rigorous cardio which is a drawback. After all this time I am finally starting to get some false readings but I think this has been a good life time for this product.Pros:Easy to use. Able to personalize for height, weight and age. Reliable and enduring.Cons:

Pulse 1 I have found this heart rate monitor to be very far off from actual heart rate. It will jump around like a frog varies any where from 30-40 heart beats in a second. I do not trust it. The battery may last an hour and it may not. I will not buy another of this brand.

Impact Sports Epulse 2 Strapless Heart Rate Monitor 4 I have found my Impact HR monitor to be highly convenient. It just straps to your arm and you go. The controls are not intuitive; however, after a few uses, you become familiar with them. I wish it had a downloading function it can already charge off a computer cable.

Epulse 2 strapless HRM 4 It is fairly easy to use but based on my other monitor with a strap the calorie count is very high, not sure how accurate. The heart rate seems accurate but occasionally gets stuck and needs to be shut off an restarted. Like the lighting and the technical support.

ePulse 2 3 My wife originally purchased this because she did not want a chest band. I began using it in an effort to monitor my caloric burn. If it had just a bit more functionality it would be perfect.

First the good. I love the continuous read out and the simple button push to toggle between HR, Cal Burn, and Time. The battery charge lasts long enough for a few hours of exercise.

Now for lack of functionality. It has a short battery life but I have managed to get more than a few hours out of it up to 5 by having it plugged in at all times during non-use. The read out is hard to see in the bright daylight so I cup my hand araound it to see the display. Also the lack of history can be annoying especially if the battery goes out during your exercise as all info is lost. I have had some erratic shut downs which I feel may not be battery related.

It is two years old now and the read out is gradually going out so I don't know how much longer I will be able to use it. If it had longer battery life, a few days history, a better display it would be perfect for my use.

Does not retain charge and not accurate 1 I tried this monitor for 30 days and it never retained a charge for more than 1 hour of activity. Also, the heart rate would jump around ranging from 60 to 150 in a few seconds and then back down again. I returned it for a refund.

Superior HRM 5 I've tried several of these, and this is the only one I've found that did what I needed to do - continuous display of heart rate while I row to make sure I'm in the optimal heart rate zone. The display is huge and well lit, the thing is incredibly comfortable to wear, lighter than a watch. I love that it can be programmed for me personally, that it tracks my data, and that it's entirely affordable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for anyone who needs a continuous display unit that does not require a chest strap. Totally liberating. I will tell everyone I know about this monitor.

Exactly what I needed. 5 This product is exactly what I needed to help me track my calorie burn and balance my calorie intake to avoid becoming catabolic while playing racquetball.

Not having to deal with a chest strap is a huge plus. My only very minor gripe is that sometimes the sensor on the forearm is a little uncomfortable. However, while I am training I really don't notice it. Only during rest periods.

Super easy to set up and even easier to use. Simply put it on and hit the power button. Highly recommended.

Epulse 2 Strapless Heart Rate Monitor 5 I've been using my Epulse-2 for about a month now under a variety of workout conditions, including elliptical, interval cardio, body-weight, and free-weight training. So far, the monitor seems to maintain a reading regardless of the type or intensity of the activity.

I've compared my Epulse-2 readings against a high-quality blood pressure monitor, and the two usually agree within a couple of points.

The unit stays in place during exercises involving arm movement, and I can even get accurate readings wearing it close to my wrist.

Battery life seems to be adequate for just about any activity, even with continuous monitoring. If your monitor will not charge on the first attempt, just follow the instructions to reset the charging function.

My only complaint is with some menu functions, but that's a minor inconvenience compared to the freedom from having to wear a chest strap during my workouts.

e-pulse2 1 I got the e-pulse 2 and it would not charge, so I had to send it back. Now I am waiting for the replacement. According to the manufacturer, they know that the batteries can sometimes discharge in transit. You would think they could fix this problem. Hopefully I will not have the same problem with the replacement.

Fake heart rate 1 I made some rigorous test with the strapped HR monitor. First i dont know why they call it strapless When a copper tape was placed over the optical sensors and blocked the light which actually "reads" the heart rate from the arm the ePulse2 still seemed to work. I was very puzzled by this fact. It means that the ePulse 2 shows a HR signal but not from actually measuring the Heart rate. It uses an acclerometer to measure your movements. Meaning if you shake your hand alot but stand still it will show that you have a higher heart rate then you actually do... I would actually not give it one star...

Love my ePulse2! 5 I had one of the first ePulses and liked it while it worked, but it needed improvement. The makers of the ePulse must have been reading my mind because the ePulse2 is everything I expected from their first model.

To my knowledge, they don't claim it to be waterproof, but I accidentally threw it in the washing machine with my workout clothes. I was surprised and very pleases to see it still worked perfectly. Thanks ePulse.

Great product 5 Recently purchased this product as an alternative to my polar hrm. Quick and easy to use. Was curious about the accuracy and precision of the readings so wore both the polar wireless and epulse during multisport use. The epulse proved to be as accurate and precise as the polar. very please with product so far. As i have not had it for long so i can not comment on durability of unit and battery.

E-Pulse2 5 This heart monitor was reccomended to me by my cardiac rehab ream after a heart attack and two strokes. I purchased the epulse2 in April 2011, and it is now Sept. 8,2011 and it has quit working. It only has a 90 day warranty. I would not reccomend this heart monitor, since it does not meet it's requirements.

I love the Epulse 2 5 I just love the Epulse 2. It provides me a good indicator as to whether my body is stressed or not. I may think I am relaxed but the monitor tells me what's really going on. The more I relax my body the lower goes my heart rate and then I know my body is healing and rejuvenating. I have also used the monitor in my Zumba class and the calories and heart rate seem very accurate. I love the strapless feature of this unit. I would personally recommend this unit to a friend or family member based on my experience with it so far.

epulse 2 1 The idea of this product is perfect, but after 2 bad experiences, unfortunately I'm done...
epulse 1 died in less than a year, but for , I felt it was still worth it.
epulse 2 has now died in 4 months - will not take a charge and I don't know what happened. I should have returned it the first day I got it, because the more you move your arms, the lower the HR reads...which we know is not true. Unless your arms are still, the reading is inaccurate.
I feel ripped off have spend on these in 16 months...back to the drawing board to find a new monitor...

ePulse 2 2 It is a great concept, but i had to already order my second unit as the first unit stopped taking a charge after 7 weeks of use, 5 times per week. After taking the item apart via the four screws, i was able to notice that the metal tab that touches the battery to provide a charge was somehow too far away from the battery and was not charging the device.
I love the device and would like to give it five stars but am too disappointed with the wear and tear.

Epulse2 5 This is working very well for the purpose I bought it. I have heart problems and have a pacemaker/defibrillator implant and I've been trying to find a solution to monitor my heart rate. I'm a musician and while performing my heart gets to racing. There is an option to set thresholds for high and low pulses and that's what I use. It works very well and I can wear it fairly close to my wrist so that while playing guitar I can glance at it so see how I'm doing.
The only things that would have made it a perfect device is, I have small wrists and the band is a little long to wear down by my wrist and having an audible alarm when I hit my high or low threshold would have been perfection. Also, being able to see my heartbeat not just pulse in real time would be on my wish list being my heart gets out of rhythm too and being able to see the skipping would be of benifit to me. Add blood pressure to that and it could be considered a medical device that I know a lot of us 'Nam Vets could use. But it's usable as is with slight mod's to the wrist band and I'm quite happy with it.
I had to give it 5 stars even without the wish list being it does everything that it says it can do.....D

epulse2 4 I've had my epulse2 for a couple weeks. I had the previous version epulse, which crapped out after about 8 months too bad warranty is only 3 months, so I hope this one lasts longer. I mostly use it on indoor exercise equipment treadmill, elliptical, NordicTrak and tennis once in awhile. Measures heartrate pretty accurately. The electronics/display is improved and easy to use. What I don't like about the new design is the armband -- when worn below the elbow, it slides a bit a down my arm as I move, unlike the previous design. It still measures heartrate when it slides; its just annoying. Fortunately, it seems to work equally well when strapped above the elbow, where it doesn't seem to move much. I would recommend this as a good product, but it would be a great product if they restore the previous armband design; extend the warranty to a year; and eliminate the 20-25% price increase they imposed with the new epulse2.

epulse review 4 I used a polar monitor for years. It was necessary to use a chest strap. It was a great device except that other electronics would interfere with transmiting and the plastic strap sometimes cut under my bar. I have had the epulse since Christmas and it works great for my activity. I hope that the battery charger doesn't cease to function properly. I didn't know this was a problem until I read the other review. The one suggestion I have is to include a heart icon that shows the exact beat. On the polar the heart icon pulses to the heart beat. When my heart would skip a beat as it sometimes does I would notice it immediately on the monitor. It is a feature worth considering. Otherwise I love it!

Strapless HRM continuous Reading 5 I rate the HRM at one star. It works fine while doing exercises that do not require arm movements. When I start using the arm levers on the eliptical, the HRM locks onto the heart rate at the start of exercise but does not change as I workout.

Thanks E-pulse for a great product. Well worth the money!
